“I really don’t have any secrets, I’ve never met a photographer whose work I respected that had a secret because the secret lies within each and every one of us.” ~ John Sexton
If the secret didn’t lie within, where would we find it? Under some rock? We are each an individual being and must find our own vision, our own passion and let them direct our personal work. Then our work will have meaning, for ourself and for others.
I love simple elegance, an image that captures the subject, perhaps one that has been captured many times, yet still reveals it in a personal way. I feel this one succeeds in doing just that.

“The power of imagination makes us infinite.” ~ John Muir
We can travel to infinity in any direction with our consciousness. Our imagination can take us even further into inner or outer reality. To be human is to be one step below the angels and one step above the devil. The choice of direction is ours, that’s what free will allows us. I, personally choose the light and work to reveal its wonderful power wherever and whenever I can.
This is a little flowering plant that has decided it can despite overwhelming odds against it.

“What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset…” ~ Crowfoot
I don’t know how you could say it more simply, more profoundly, more truthfully. It reminds me of the John Lennon line that “life is what happens to you while you are making other plans.” Life is simply our day to day experiences, our day to day activities. Most importantly it is how we react to them and what we choose to incorporate into and share them with. Life is ours to live.
Here is an image that captures life in a simple scene, revealing its intimate and yet powerful nature all at once.

“A painting that is well composed is half finished.” ~ Pierre Bonnard
The same can be said for a well composed photographic image. Composition is the first and foremost skill an artist must strive to acquire. Everything else will follow. A poorly composed image will offend the eye of the beholder no matter how wonderful the colors or subject matter.
I was able to capture this image when the light was just perfect, at the end of the day. The right place at the right time.

“The earth is like a vessel so sacred That at the mere approach of the profane
It is marred…” ~ Laotzu
I wish more of our citizens and members of our government were enlightened enough to realize this simple truth, so eloquently stated over 2600 years ago. It’s appalling that we have to fight our own government to protect our heritage for our children and our children’s children.
This is an example of just one little place of beauty on our wonderful, fragile planet, floating through the vast darkness of space and time.

“One of these mornin’s You’re gonna rise up singin’Then you’ll spread your wings And take to the sky.” ~ George Gershwin and Dubose Heyward, Porgy and Bess
It’s August and summer is here in the Great Northwest! It’s so easy to “wake up singin’ when the days are sunny and the nights are warm. Grab the camera, head for the shore and capture some summertime images….
Here you have one of those fun summertime images.

“Earth laughs in flowers.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Two quotes in a row by Emerson, just couldn’t help myself, they’re both great. This time of year the earth seems to be laughing uproariously! Flowers everywhere from alpine meadows to my back yard. A truly wonderful time of year up here in the Great Northwest.
Here is an image of some of that wonderful laughter.
